North Miami Beach: The Quieter Side

A good place to relax yourself

North Miami Beach runs from 65th to 85th Street. It’s not like South Beach — fewer crowds, less noise, but the same clean sand and ocean.
If you want a more relaxed beach day, this is the spot.

What makes North Beach different?

  • More space to walk and fewer tourists.
  • Lots of restaurants and shops close by.
  • Buses and trolleys run through, so you don’t need a car.
  • A boardwalk that’s great for walking or biking.

A family-friendly beach

This is a family-friendly beach with beautiful, clear water and clean sand. It’s not crowded. If you have small kids, there are two nice playgrounds: Pirate Park playground and the playground with the zip line near Allison Park. There are several outdoor showers along the coastline and a public restroom behind the North Shore Branch Public Library, between 75th and 76th Street.

A good place to live

North Beach feels like a neighborhood, not just a tourist spot. North Beach Park is popular for outdoor activities like kayaking and bird watching. Some locals even camp on nearby islands. It’s calm and easy.

What to expect

Beautiful sand and clear water, though the water can be cooler than you might expect. In January, water temps are usually in the low 70s, with just a bit of seaweed on the shore. There are lifeguard stations, rest/change rooms, and body showers near the 5301 Collins parking lot.
There aren’t many hotels here, so it’s quieter. People tend to respect each other’s space.

Things to know

Parking can be difficult depending on the time of year. Overall, the neighborhood looks like it’s seen better days, with some run-down and boarded-up places. Food options are limited, and except for Taquiza, many places are on busy, less scenic streets like Collins Avenue.

Why think about North Beach?

If you want the beach without crowds, North Beach works. It’s quiet and walkable. New buildings allow short-term rentals, so it’s good for investors or people who want a place in Miami without the hustle.
