The Ritz-Carlton South Beach

Overall, this place is good! Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. However, the housekeeping could use some work. Our room wasn’t properly cleaned, our luggage was overturned with clothing spilling out, and they didn’t replenish the coffee or take out the trash. We arrived late at night and the front desk greeting was poor with no help with our luggage. The room we booked via Booking.com was awful, so we had to upgrade. Club level is a glam!

The ocean view, pool, and direct access to the beach were all excellent. Room service too!

Disliked: The front desk staff wasn’t as friendly as I’ve experienced at other Marriott properties. As a golf member, I requested a late check-in but was told my room key would be deactivated on the date of checkout. I’ve stayed at Marriotts around the world and this was the first time I had to check again during the checkout date. Very disappointing.

This hotel has a great location with excellent beach views and proximity to restaurants, retail, and other attractions. The staff was extremely professional and friendly, from the concierge to the spa personnel to the security team and beach/pool attendants. They were all very attentive to my family’s wants and needs, asking if we needed anything before we even had to ask. The bellhops and door attendants provided excellent service as well, and housekeeping was very good, especially since we visited during Spring Break. Fuego y mar a good experience.

Disliked: The linens and bedding quality could use an upgrade, and firmer mattresses and pillows would be appreciated.

This property is in a fantastic location, right on the beach and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the Art Deco district. We also took advantage of the daily complimentary 2-hour bicycle rentals. We ate breakfast daily at the on-site restaurant and the food was great, but the wait staff was not worthy of the automatic 18% tip we were charged on every meal.

Disliked: Our first impression of the hotel was marred by a very rude valet who, when my husband asked if our bags would be brought to our room, told us in a snide tone that “he didn’t bring bags to rooms.” However, Yurman, the porter who did bring our bags to our room, was friendly and kind. Overall, we found the customer service lacking compared to other Ritz Carlton hotels and felt that despite the great location, it was overpriced at $890 per night.
